31 August is the last date for salmon fishing in the rivers up here in the north, so i couldnt sit at home and see it pass without any fishing. I drove to a good place, after three rounds in the pool i got three salmons between 7 to 5kg everyone released, more than satisfied i packed down my rods and drove back home. The autumn is here and now it is time to let the salmons be in peace in the rivers. Nine months left for a new salmon season up here in the north. Now lets focus on the hunting! :)

Been working with Frekko Fishing this summer and in Kengis Bruk with Lars Munk.
The salmon season this year didnt become what we all hoped for. The salmon were late in the rivers and when they arrived,the nets in the sea and river outlet was out and stopped the rising fish. It's a shame that the swedish government doesnt take care of the salmon. Although we had it hard some salmons were hooked, the grayling and trout fishing have been the light this summer with alot of big graylings and trouts.

Loop has taken over the classic building "rökeriet" in Mörrum. When everything is ready there will be a fishing lodge, smokery, restaurant, delicacy store and a fishing store. The restaurant and the fishing store is already up running. Flugfiskeguiden Mörrumsån are the one who operate the store.

A new year has started and the time runs fast, soon we all will be standing by the rivers :) Until then we can just dream and tie flies. Here is some pictures from 2009 salmon season.

Mr Capercaillie!

Finally i got my Mr Capercaillie.
Today i was out hunting with my sister. Last year at the same time we was out hunting for a couple of days without any luck. So this time we was looking for revenge. We had not been skiing so far when we got in contact with some Black Grouse and i managed to shoot one of them. We got our revenge =)

One hour later in the dense forest we heard the sound from wings, no doubt that it was capercailllie wings. We moved out to some more open land trying to see if they had flown there. I took up my binoculars and started to looking towards a group of pinetrees. In one of the pinetree a capercaillie was sitting. Just after i discovered the first capercaillie another one joined. This was going to be hard, 300-400meters from us they were sitting with just open land between us. two-three pinetrees between us had to do as cover. After a long crawling trip itowards the pinetrees beetween me and the capercaillies i finally got there. I got ready to take the shot and squeezed the trigger slowly. When the shot went, a capercaillie came down from the big pinetree! Pure Happiness!

A really good hunting day in the winter landscape =)

Thursday this week we was going to start the day at 13:30, so it was perfect to do some hunting before.

It became a exciting hunting day with a lot of contacts with black grouse.

Two weeks in the south.

11-23 October we have been in the south. More exactly, Bräkne-Hoby in Blekinge.
The first Week we visited the folk high school of blekinge. They have a one year education wich focus on how to help the fish and the environment they live in.

We did several different things such as,inventory of insects in brooks, inventory of brooks and testfishing to mention a few things. It was instructive and funny. Looking forward when they come to visit us in the spring to do some icefishing :)

The second week we spend visiting different companys and fishing locations.
A nice meeting was the ABU museum were we got a perfect guiding and the whole history of the company relate to us, Thanks!
We also checked out the famous Mörrumriver and how the fishing is run there, their museum gave us the whole history of the classic water.
Our last visit was Sameo also known as flugor.se
To hear about the company and how it started and their philosophy of their products and making good equipment for good prices was really interesting. They were all really nice and gave me an honest impression.

After two weeks down south I really started longing for the north and the snow that came just before we leaved.

Pikefishing methods and some hunting on my free time

This week became a little bit shorter since we just hade three days at the school(28-30 September).

The days at the school we looked at different methods for pikefishing, such as jerkbait, angling and icefishing. We learned to do tackle for angling and icefishing and we were out trying differents jerkbaits in the water.

When the three days at the school were over i drove to my cabin for some hunting.
I had two nice days in the forest with lovely weather and good hunting also.

Cooking week at Kengisbruk

21-25 of September we have been at Kengis Bruk to learn us arrange and cook for a larger group of people.
Our big mission was to make a dinner party for 30 guests.

For this dinner party we tried to collect as much as possible of the ingredients by ourselves.
So we were out hunting,picking berries and mushrooms.

On the party we had several delicacy from the area such as, Black Grouse, Capercaillie, Reindeer, Elk, Bear, Cloudberry and Char, to mention a few.

The dinner party at the end of the week went really well and the guest seemed satisfied with the arrangement and the food :)

Wednesday to Friday, 16-18 September we have spend our days by the Lainioriver, on Rivers Of Lapland's new beat wich includes the famous Onka Pool.

We started our trip by visiting Sara and Johan from Explore The North and Rivers of Lapland in Kangos.
It was really nice and inspiring to meet them and hear about their company's and about their experience of the tourism branch.
After visiting them we went upstreams towards the Onka pool, where we was going to have our camp for the following days.
On this trip we also had the Nature Guide Students from the school with us, because we was going to guide them in grayling fishing and flyfishing technique on the morning after. The guiding went really good even though the grayling wasnt on the strike many of the natur guide students caught ther first fishes on a flyrod and everybody succeeded good in manage the flyrod. During this trip Rivers Of Lapland wanted us to look for improvement that can be done on the beat and testfishing for salmon to check the condition of the salmon so late in the season, the fishing was C&R and with single hooks.
Even though we hadnt so much time for test fishing it went really good, I made nine rounds in Onka pool during these days and got in contact with eleven salmons and managed to land four of them, the biggest one on 93cm. I also tried another pool upstreams Onka wich looked really nice. I made two rounds there and lost two salmons, one of them was a real big one, easily over ten kilos. I wont speculate more of how big it was, but one thing is sure, there are big salmons there.
The condition of the salmons were good and still they seemed to have som week left before they was about to spawn.
We also had som time on Friday going through some two-hand casting and theory of salmonfishing.
The time was running fast when we had such a good time and the schedule was a bit tight so the days just flew by.

Restoration in Juojoki.

From 7 to 11 September we have spend our days down by Juojoki with Rolf Lahti to work with restoration the little brook to make it better for the trouts living ther.
Its a project that students from the TFHSK has worked with since 2004 and will continue until 2014. The project is about to restore the brook back into its natural shape. Back in time Juojoki was used for shipping timber and many of the spawning grounds and places for the trout to live was destroyed. And Juojoki is the only known brook in the Torneriver system on the swedish side containing freshwater pearl mussel, so its important to make good places for the trouts to live because the mussel is dependence on the trout since the mussel is living as a parasite on the trout during one stadium in their life. During the week we made spawning grounds, places for the trouts to live, testfishing and electrofishing. We also checked out the insect life around the brook. It was another learning week at the school :)

Rajamaa!

We went up to Rajamaa fishingcamp on the evening in 1 september.
We was going to spend 3 days ther, learning about graylingfishing and how it is to beeing a guide. It became 3 days with a lot of new things on your mind. Our teacher Jesper Larsson talked alot of how it is to beeing a guide and showed us technichs for graylingfishing. The grayling was on the strike and we caught several nice graylings.

Hello!

My name is Erik Tjärner. Iam guy in my best days who loves beeing out in the nature.
My biggest passion is flyfishing for salmon in the norht of sweden during the summer. And when the salmons are about to spawn my other passion takes over, hunting . I have always been near the nature and the places where I have lived it has never been far to take a walk in the forest or going down to the river.
Since i have this big passion for beeing out in the nature i decided to search for the fishingguide education in Tornedalens FHSK. They accepted my request so this following year i will live in Övertorneå in Tornevalley. Near to my loved salmon river Torneriver and not far away from my hunting areas. So on this blogg you can read about the education and whats going on.
